SERMI sees strong manufacturer backing as 19 brands sign up within days

Following confirmation of the UK SERMI go-live date on 2nd February, the Independent Garage Association (IGA) has reported an extremely positive response from vehicle manufacturers. Within a few days of approval notification, 19 brands had committed to supporting the SERMI scheme, with additional manufacturers expected to join soon.

This rapid early uptake highlights the growing recognition of SERMI as a major step forward for the independent aftermarket, offering a secure and standardised process for independent garages to access vehicle security-related information.

Manufacturers currently committed to SERMI include:

Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Jeep®, Lancia, Land Rover, Maserati, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks, Toyota and Vauxhall.

Stuart James, Chief Executive of the IGA, welcomed the strong response, saying:

“The response from vehicle manufacturers has been extremely positive. To have 19 on board within days of notifying them of UK approval shows just how important SERMI is to the future of our sector. This scheme will positively change the operational capability of independent garages and provide something we simply haven’t had in the UK before.”

While SERMI will not be essential for every independent garage, the IGA encourages businesses to ensure they fully understand the scheme and whether it is relevant to their operations.

James added:

“It’s essential that garages are secure in their own minds about whether SERMI is something they need. Our role is to continue providing clear and accurate information so businesses can make an informed choice that’s right for them.”

The IGA has also reminded garages that SERMI registration includes government DBS checks, which can take up to two weeks and, in some cases, longer, so businesses should plan ahead accordingly.

Opus IVS UK will continue to share updates and guidance as SERMI adoption develops across the UK market.
